Son, as you know I have been on a mission to read the Bible. It has been no easy task. I started reading several months ago. After getting through the New Testament, I started back at Genesis. I am now in the book of Psalms. I am still not close to being done.
This adventure of ours and my attempt to read the entire Bible (and understand as much as I can) has really got me thinking. First, I wonder how many fellow brothers and sisters in Christ have actually read the whole Bible. I know people like to read certain books in the Bible, and others quote certain scripture, but how many really have a good understanding of what is in there? The Bible isn’t a book you can read in a week and get the gist of everything. I have to look up certain verses online to get a better understanding of what is meant. I have to re-read some books or chapters several times when I am too tired or when I do not comprehend what is written. You have heard the words more than you think, especially when I fall asleep to the gentleman reading the bible on my app.
The good news is that the Bible is a book I really am not looking forward to finishing. I want to read more, I want to learn more. I still have some questions that are unanswered. One thing I have learned is having faith is not easy. There were many people written about in the Bible who witnessed God’s awesome power in person and still had trouble with their faith and conquering sin. The people who saw Moses part the Red Sea, the kings who saw God’s hand help them win battles against incredible odds, and even Jesus’ own mother whom was told Jesus would arise doubted and lost faith. How hard is it for us who have not directly seen these incredible acts of God? How much harder do we make it on ourselves when we don’t even read the written word God left us?
The Bible is the best instruction manual for life there is! It is a shame most of us don’t read the instructions first; instead we try to do it on our own.
I never said any of this was going to be easy; I have read and seen in real life how Christians are persecuted throughout the world. We have an uphill battle to make a difference, but we are well equipped!
I love you more than anything son!
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
